There’s no universal law, no single motivation. And, even more, there’s no one valid reason that always pushes each of us to take our bike, clip into the pedals, and head out. It might be the desire to escape from yourself for a couple of hours, it might be an inexplicable force driving you into the unknown, it might be the desire to push until your legs burn and you’re out of breath.
Every time it’s a different motivation, every time a reason that impels you to engage in that same action, so cyclical and always identical but so profoundly different due to the meaning it takes on. There’s no universal law, but from time to time that reason becomes your everything. Your only thought. In that moment, for you, cycling is only and all about that thing.
Cycling is a sport made up of traditions — sometimes to be respected to the letter, other times to be challenged and evolved so they don’t become illogical customs without substance. Life is likewise made up of traditions, which we need to know in order to know where we come from. Traditions to be taken and reinterpreted, mixed, reinvented, and experienced in your own way. In Italy, for example, Sunday is for family meals. Take the tradition and experience it in your own way. In any case, it’s all about tradition.
Una volta pensi di essere Peter Sagan che scatta sul Kwaremont, una volta di conquistare la cima Coppi. Una volta ti butti in discesa fingendo di essere in moto, una volta fai finta di essere in un videogioco anni 80. A volte la bici è una questione di gambe, altre volte it’s all about your imagination.
You can’t wait.
You can’t wait for nice weather.
You can’t wait for the right temperature.
You can’t wait because you simply need to go out and feed your curiosity and your desire to know.
Winter, here, is your ally. It’s a paradox, but adventure is right there within reach. Winter belongs to those who feel these things deeply.
It’s all about your nature.
It’s a drive that knows no seasons, geographies, or weather conditions, because it’s a drive that doesn’t care about anything.
Do you need to go far to indulge it? You find a way to get there!
Do you need to have the right clothing so you don’t have to stop even when the temperature is below zero? You find it.
Because it’s a drive that you can’t ignore. Because it’s all about your attitude.
